Voters have approved Lorain County Community College’s proposed 2.3-mil renewal levy.
The levy was approved by a vote of 27,650 to 18,809, according to unofficial final results April 28 from the Lorain County Elections Board.
The levy is a general operating levy for LCCC was last updated in 2010 and expires in December 2020, according to the college.
The Lorain County Auditor’s Office said the levy will cost $66.27 annually per $100,000 home valuation.
Tracy Green, vice president of strategic and institutional development at LCCC, said a group effort was made to spread awareness about the college and its affects on the community.
“This levy plays a role in not only LCCC strong and the strength of our community,” Green said. "We were really striving to stress the importance of the levy support.
“We’ve been out in the community until the effect of COVID-19,” Green added. “We really spent time meeting with groups and organizations to ensure they had awareness of the impact of Lorain County Community College.”
Marcia Ballinger, the president of LCCC said the results reflects the positive spirit and close-knit community.
“We are so indebted and grateful to the community for their support and to make sure Lorain County Community College can continue to helping the record of continuing to see our students and employees succeed,” Ballinger said. “We’re just so grateful that our residents are continuing to show their support.”
Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose said the unique circumstances of this primary election could lend itself to a higher than usual number of properly postmarked ballots arriving after April 28. This could mean that results for some races and issues could change in the official count. Ballots returned by mail containing a postmark on or before April 27 must be received by boards of election by May 8 in order to be counted.
